Geschichten vom Berg

“Geschichten vom Berg” (Stories from the Mountain) is a digital museum about the commons of the Upper Valais: water, forest and alpine pastures, which in the Naters region are still managed collectively by local cooperatives and burgher communities. The project of the Lebendige Geschichte(n) association opened on 11 September 2026 in Blatten bei Naters.

Jonas Scheu leads the project together with Philipp Eyer, social anthropologist and documentary filmmaker. Commissioned by the Lebendige Geschichte(n) association, Amrit Medias is responsible for concept, content and audiovisual production: oral history interviews in Valais dialect, films, photography and the design of the on-site interpretation.

In 2025 we followed a full annual cycle on the Natischer and Munder Berg: the “Gmeiwärch” communal work on the irrigation channels, watering with the “Wasserhouwwa”, the cattle drives up to and down from the alp, cheesemaking on the alp, the “Schäful” and the work in the burgher and protection forests. Local people were part of the research from the start, at the “Aabusitz” in Naters and the “Hängert” gatherings in Blatten, Mund and Naters.

The stories are accessible through an app and website, and on site through more than 50 viewpoints with QR codes between Naters (673 m) and the Sparrhorn (3,021 m). They are complemented by six introductory panels, eight object panels, the village walk “Das alte Dorf Blatten” and the temporary exhibition “Women and the Alpine Pasture Season” at the World Nature Forum in Naters.
